Eric (Cheng-Lin) Tien is the Chief Accounting Officer at Venturway, where he leads financial strategy across accounting operations, investment reporting, and data-driven financial analysis. As a CPA and CFA charterholder with a strong foundation in both traditional finance and modern analytics, Eric brings a balanced blend of rigor, technical precision, and strategic insight to Venturway’s financial infrastructure.

Born and raised with a strong academic focus, Eric earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California’s Leventhal School of Accounting. During his time at USC, he was a recurring scholarship recipient recognized for academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement. He also co-founded the Transfer Student Assembly (formerly the Transfer Student Community), an organization dedicated to helping transfer students integrate, thrive, and build meaningful networks within the broader USC community.

Eric began his career at Ernst & Young (EY) in Los Angeles, where he provided assurance services to wealth and asset management clients—including private equity firms, hedge funds, funds of funds, and other financial institutions. His work at EY strengthened his foundation in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and complex audit environments.

He then joined BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, where he managed accounting operations for private credit funds in the Santa Monica office. His contributions included preparing year-end audited financials, analyzing revenue and expenses, and overseeing quarterly reporting cycles for multi-billion-dollar investment vehicles.

Today, Eric works at Oaktree Capital Management, one of the global leaders in alternative investment strategies. As part of the Portfolio Analytics team, he supports marketing, fundraising, and portfolio management initiatives by delivering investment-level performance reporting and analysis for closed-end funds. Eric utilizes SQL, Python, and Power BI to improve analytical precision, automate reporting processes, and build scalable solutions for portfolio construction, tracking, and decision support.

Eric remains deeply committed to financial education and community service. As an active member of the CFA Society Los Angeles, he contributes to the Financial Literacy Program, teaching individuals of all ages the fundamentals of budgeting, investing, and long-term financial planning. His volunteer work extends across projects such as mentoring students in personal finance, presenting to low-income families on college funding, assembling care kits for the unhoused, sewing stuffed animals for children with disabilities, and supporting single-parent families through furniture-building initiatives.

Outside of his professional and volunteer commitments, Eric stays active through basketball, gym training, and exploring national parks. He also enjoys singing and reading—pursuits that reflect his belief in continuous growth, discipline, and well-rounded living.
